Dodgers Blank Padres 7-0 as Bullpen Game Backfires on San Diego
The Dodgers beat the Padres 7-0 on Tuesday night at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium, and the game turned on the exact variable that decided the handicap: the mound.
We sold the Dodgers moneyline, the Padres +1.5 run line, and the under. The moneyline and the under both cashed. The run line did not โ San Diego never got within a run and was shut out entirely.
Michael King, the only true starter in the building, lasted 4.0 innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. On the other side, Brock Stewart's one-inning opener set up a Dodgers bullpen that kept San Diego off the board all night.
The prop card went the wrong way. We took Fernando Tatis Jr. over 1.5 total bases at +104; he finished 1-for-4 with a single and two strikeouts, one total base. We took Ty France over 1.5 total bases at +139; he went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts, zero total bases. We took Jackson Merrill over 1.5 total bases at +140; he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, zero total bases. All three lost, each by two bases.
The Padres' bats we leaned on produced almost nothing: Manny Machado went 0-for-3 with a walk, Jake Cronenworth 0-for-3, and the team was shut out. Freddie Freeman did the damage for Los Angeles with two hits and three RBI.
The takeaway is straightforward. A bullpen-game profile promises extra plate appearances, but it doesn't promise production, and a lineup that gets buried early stops generating the volume those over bets need. When the opponent's pitching plan is working, the safer read is the side and the under โ not a stack of San Diego total-base overs.
