Mets 7, Rangers 2: Baty Slam, McLean Deal, Soto Homers
The Mets beat the Rangers 7-2 on Wednesday night at Globe Life Field, and the shape of the game was set early: Nolan McLean controlled it, and New York's bats eventually broke it open. Brett Baty's ninth-inning grand slam turned a tight game into a rout, and the Rangers' stumble came at the worst possible time in a crowded AL West race.
How the game turned
McLean gave New York exactly what the matchup called for: 7.0 innings, 2 earned runs, 3 hits, 5 strikeouts and 1 walk. The Rangers never strung together sustained traffic against him. Marcus Semien's go-ahead homer briefly put Texas in front, but the Mets answered with three long balls of their own and pulled away late.
Grading the card
Moneyline โ Mets: WIN. The pick'em price held and New York won it comfortably. Total โ Over: WIN. Nine combined runs cleared the number. Run line โ Rangers +1.5: LOSS. The grand slam ended any chance of a one-run Texas cover.
On the prop card, Evan Carter under 0.5 hits (-130) cashed: 0-for-3. Juan Soto over 1.5 total bases (+127) hit easily โ one homer, four total bases, plus three walks. Nolan McLean over 2.5 strikeouts (-155) cleared with five. Carson Benge over 1.5 total bases (+148) was the miss: 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.
What it means going forward
The read on McLean was the right one โ a strikeout arm with a walk problem still limits damage when he keeps the ball in the yard. The Soto split against right-handers continues to be the most reliable angle on this Mets lineup. The Benge miss is a reminder that a soft opposing pitching situation doesn't rescue a hitter in a cold stretch; price alone isn't an edge.
