Brewers Beat Padres 3-1 to Win NLDS: Buehler, Bats Fall Short

The Milwaukee Brewers are headed back to the NLCS. A 3-1 win at Petco Park on Wednesday closed out the NLDS, and the story was simple: Milwaukee's pitching kept a good San Diego lineup in check while the road team did just enough with the bats.

Walker Buehler's night never found a rhythm. He lasted 3.0 innings, allowed one earned run on three hits with two walks and no strikeouts, and handed a short outing to a bullpen that had already been leaned on. Robert Gasser gave Milwaukee 4.0 innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts, and that was the difference in a game where neither side broke it open.

How our card graded

  • Moneyline โ€” Brewers to win: โœ… Cashed. Milwaukee closed it out on the road, exactly the side we backed.
  • Run line โ€” Padres +1.5: โŒ Lost. A two-run final meant San Diego needed the outright win to cover.
  • Total โ€” Under: โœ… Cashed. Four combined runs stayed beneath the number.

On the props, Brice Turang over 0.5 hits got there with a 1-for-5 night. Ty France over 0.5 hits missed โ€” 0-for-3 with a walk. Luis Campusano over 0.5 hits also missed, an 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

The takeaway

This is what a coin-flip price looks like when it lands: the side hits, the run line doesn't, and the total does. The prop results are the more useful lesson. Turang's platoon edge held up; France and Campusano ran into a Milwaukee staff that simply didn't allow the soft contact we were counting on. When a lineup is this dependent on one starter's weaknesses, a short outing from that starter can erase the whole edge. That's worth remembering the next time a contact-based prop card leans this hard on a single matchup.
