Blazers Beat Kings 128-120: Road Pick Cashes, Total Misses

The Portland Trail Blazers went into Golden 1 Center and left with a 128-120 win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday night. The story was the same one that followed these teams into the game: Portland's remodeled backcourt produced efficient volume, while Sacramento's shorthanded rotation couldn't keep pace at the defensive end.

Our premium pick had the Trail Blazers at -8.5 on the road with a -360 moneyline, and we leaned under 232.5. The moneyline hit โ€” Portland won outright. The spread did not: the Blazers won by 8, a half-point short of the number. The total missed badly, with 248 combined points landing well over 232.5.

The grade: moneyline POR โœ…, spread SAC โŒ (by half a point), total Under โŒ (by 15.5 points).

The spread loss stings because the read was right. The number simply asked Portland to win by more than the game allowed. The total miss is the more instructive one: we expected Sacramento's offensive issues to cap scoring, but the Kings put up 120 at home. A defense that allowed 121 in game one didn't tighten up in game two.

What it means going forward: one-game samples cut both ways. Sacramento's 0-1 line looked ugly, but the Kings are more competitive at home than that snapshot suggested. And Portland's offense is real โ€” the Blazers cleared 128 without needing overtime. Until Sacramento's rotation gets healthier, opposing totals deserve a second look before we lean under again.
